Vocals and spoken voice

Two iso booths, fourteen preamp channels and an engineer in the room with you — ten minutes from the U3 in Vienna’s 7th district.

Woman speaking into a microphone inside a sound-treated vocal booth.

Lead vocals, rap verses, ad-libs or a spoken intro often decide whether a track feels finished. At Mugwetkyro we budget the first part of every booking for headphone mix, mic placement and listening together before we commit to keeper takes.

Bring a finished instrumental, a multitrack export from your home setup, or lyrics and a melody sketch — we meet you where you are. Spoken formats such as podcast voice, audiobook samples or short narration clips sit alongside stacked backing vocals. For practical prep tips, see our guide prepare your voice for the studio.

Workflow

  1. Brief

Send instrumental, lyrics and references. We reply within 2 business days with a slot and a clear quote.

  2. Setup

Mic choice, pop filter, distance and cue mix — usually fifteen to twenty minutes so you feel settled in the booth.

  3. Tracking

Full passes first, then targeted sections. The engineer flags usable lines so you are not re-listening to everything at the end.

  4. Handover

WAV exports of vocal tracks, optional comping the same day. Raw session kept on our side for 24 months.

Who uses the booth

Solo artists cutting a single, rappers on a mixtape schedule, bands adding vocals after a live-room day, songwriters who need a clean demo for a publisher, producers who want a tight lead on a beat — the booth covers these workflows. Narrators for brand films, podcast hosts recording intros, or singers tracking over a live-room playback also book regularly.

Minimum age for unattended sessions is 16. Younger performers need written consent from a guardian and an adult present. If you are unsure whether your project fits, email [email protected] or call +43 1 996 42 18 — we will tell you honestly without a hard sell.

Rooms and signal path

Mugwetkyro runs 3 rooms at Siebensterngasse 19, 1070 Wien. For Vocals & Voice you get 2 isolated booths linked to the control room with glass and talkback. The booths are tuned dry without feeling airless — helpful for long rap sessions or repeated chorus passes.

14 preamp channels sit at the studio; we usually start with a large-diaphragm condenser, switching to a dynamic for loud or very close rap deliveries. 8 headphone outputs let you and a guest hear different cue mixes. Default capture is 24-bit / 48 kHz, or your project sample rate on request.

How a session runs

After a short check-in in the lounge we confirm song structure, how many doubles you want and whether comping should happen inside the booking. The engineer loads your instrumental or stem export, marks sections and checks levels before you step into the booth.

You listen to the cue mix first, then we capture reference passes to settle distance and volume. From there we work section by section: hook, verses, optional ad-libs on separate tracks. Breaks are yours to take; a tired voice costs more time than it saves.

  • Agree upfront how much artistic feedback you want
  • Flag keeper takes inside the session
  • Second booth available for simultaneous backing parts when booked

What to bring

Ideally send the instrumental as WAV without a guide vocal, lyrics (print or digital) and two or three reference tracks whose vocal tone you like — not to copy the song, but to set direction. Tempo and key help us lock in; if you do not know them, we figure them out together.

Your own headphones are fine if you are used to them. For spoken scripts, send wording and pronunciation notes (names, foreign terms) ahead of time. More warm-up and lifestyle tips live in our vocal prep article — no mysticism, just practical habits.

Delivery and follow-up work

Standard delivery is separate WAV files per part (lead, doubles, ad-libs), aligned to session start with clear file names. We can also export the working session or a dry rough balance for listening at home. Files go out via download link or your drive; data handling is described in the privacy policy.

Light comping and obvious breath edits can happen inside the booked window. Detailed tuning, surgical de-essing or a release-ready mix are outside Vocals & Voice — book mixing instead, with up to 2 revision rounds under our terms and conditions. Plan mastering separately when you are ready to publish.

Rates and billing

Quoted amounts are consumer prices including 20% VAT; the net hourly rate is €79.17. We bill the studio time you reserve — setup and short breaks inside the block count, longer interruptions we agree in advance.

Bookings firm up after a 30% deposit; free reschedule up to 7 days before the date — see terms for edge cases. B2B clients with a VAT ID can agree 14-day payment on invoice.

Not included

Outside musicians, hired session singers, lyric translation, sheet music or licensed beats stay on your side — we only record material you are allowed to use. Instruments in the booth are uncommon; if you need amps or keys in a room, that crosses into band recording by arrangement.

Travel, parking on Siebensterngasse and accommodation for out-of-town guests are not part of the rate. Extra editing hours bill at the same hourly rate, or we point you to podcast and post-production when the job is dialogue cutting rather than singing.

Getting here and studio hours

U3 Neubaugasse station, Siebensterngasse exit — about three minutes on foot to Siebensterngasse 19. Bus line 13A stops at Neubaugasse / Burggasse (around five minutes on foot). The studio entrance is in a Gründerzeit building in Neubau — please use the studio bell, not residential flats. Hours: Monday to Friday 10:00–20:00, Saturday 10:00–16:00, closed on Sunday. Sessions outside those windows need prior agreement.

Late arrival shortens usable time; if you are ill, tell us early so we can move the date. On the day, +43 1 996 42 18 is fastest; [email protected] for everything else. Full service list: services overview. General questions: FAQ.

FAQ

How long does one song take?

A three- to four-minute track with verses, chorus and a few doubles usually needs two to four hours. The half-day block fits most solo bookings; multiple titles often mean hourly billing or a second date.

Can someone sit in the control room?

One or two guests are fine if they do not distract the artist. Larger groups we discuss when quoting — the booth itself fits one performer at a time.

Do you mix the vocals in the same booking?

A finished mix is a separate mixing job. We hand off clean, well-named tracks you or anyone else can mix. We can play a quick balance check at the end — not a release master.

What if I need to cancel?

Reschedule free more than 7 days ahead. Closer cancellations follow our terms; the 30% deposit holds the slot for both sides. If you are hoarse, we prefer moving the date to chasing bad takes.

Are sessions in English OK?

Yes — day-to-day studio talk is often German, but many sessions run in English. Send lyrics and pronunciation notes beforehand; bring references for any accent you are aiming for.
