Band recording in the live room
Drums, bass and amps in one space — glass to the control room, isolated tracks and an engineer who adjusts mics while you keep playing.

Energy often comes from everyone playing at once — something overdub stacks rarely match. At Mugwetkyro in Vienna Neubau we capture those performances while keeping each source editable for the mix later.
Rock, indie, punk, jazz-rock or acoustic line-ups with percussion: up to 6 musicians fit when volume and arrangement match the room. For time and budget planning, read plan your band recording budget; send technical questions via contact beforehand.
Workflow
Planning
Share setlist, tempo map and target track count. We propose mic plans and time blocks — reply within 2 business days.
Load-in
Drum layout, amp angles, DI boxes and click mix. Expect thirty to fifty minutes before the first take.
Tracking
Live passes or instrument overdubs. The engineer logs takes and keeps levels stable so later overdubs line up.
Export
Multitrack WAV or session archive with named tracks. Stored 24 months; stem notes for mixing on request.
Why a live room
The live room is about 44 square metres with treated walls and space for a drum kit, bass amp and several guitar rigs. Players face each other, hear a monitor mix and perform like on stage — while mics feed separate tracks to the desk.
Louder genres get amp aiming and drum isolation where needed without killing the vibe. Quieter setups (acoustic guitar, cajón, picked-up strings) use the natural air in the room. If you are unsure your line-up fits, describe instruments and stage volume — we will say so honestly, even when a smaller setup is smarter.
Line-ups and limits
Four to six musicians is typical: drums, bass, two guitars, vocals — keys via DI when needed. Vocals can be sung live or added later in vocals and voice. More than 6 people in the room at once is not supported for safety and acoustics; larger groups we stage in passes or trim the live line-up.
Minimum age 16 for performers without a guardian present. Bring your own amps and drums if you prefer, provided they are safe; we may supply basic backline when available on request. Flag failing cables or hot tube amps before load-in — setup time is part of your booking.
Mic plan and recording chain
Drums get overheads plus close mics on snare, toms and kick; bass usually DI with an optional amp room mic; guitars via amp mics or reamp later. 14 preamp channels keep headroom on every track. Glass and talkback connect the rooms so on-floor volume stays conversational.
Click and pre-roll feed 8 headphone outputs; each player can request more bass or less overhead in the cue. Capture at 24-bit / 48 kHz, higher rates by arrangement. If your mixer wants stem groups, see stem exports for mixing as a companion read.
From load-in to last take
Entry at Siebensterngasse 19, short safety and room briefing, then build. Drummers tune the kit; guitarists angle amps so cymbal bleed stays manageable. We run a reference half-song once everyone accepts the monitor mix — levels and balance before keeper passes.
Then either full live takes per song or a hybrid: live bed, then overdubs for solos or vocals. Breaks every couple of takes protect ears and tube amps. The engineer numbers takes and marks favourites; you call when a song is done — we flag repeated mistakes without padding time for its own sake.
Band prep checklist
Tune guitars and bass before arrival; swap dead snare heads that rattle like a shopping bag. Bring picks, spare strings, tuner and a setlist with tempos — approximate BPM is fine. Live vocals mean the singer knows lyrics; there is no teleprompter.
Rehearse to a click if you plan to use one. For busy arrangements, note who enters when. Parking on Siebensterngasse is tight — use the lift for heavy cases when you can. Directions: U3 Neubaugasse station, Siebensterngasse exit — about three minutes on foot to Siebensterngasse 19. Bus line 13A stops at Neubaugasse / Burggasse (around five minutes on foot). — also on contact.
Rates and VAT
Band work bills by reserved studio time; figures include 20% VAT. Hourly slots suit overdub afternoons or small line-ups; the day rate covers eight hours with engineer and room.
| Rate | Covers | Price incl. VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Hourly | live room + engineer | €125 |
| Day rate | eight hours — common for EP basics | €920 |
Net hourly: €104.17. 30% deposit confirms the date; free move up to 7 days ahead per terms. Extra hours beyond the day rate bill at the hourly rate when agreed upfront.
Handover and what comes next
After tracking you receive multitrack WAVs or a session archive with clear track names (drums, bass, guitars L/R, vocals). Delivery online or to your drive; raw material stays 24 months with Mugwetkyro GmbH, then deleted unless we agree otherwise.
Mixing and mastering are separate: mixing with up to 2 revision rounds, mastering for release loudness. We do not “quick mix” during band time so tracking stays focused. Usage questions sit in terms and the disclaimer.
Not covered by the band rate
Production, arrangement coaching, scoring, hiring musicians or renting gear outside our stock is not included. Faulty third-party gear that eats session time still runs on your clock — plan load-in accordingly.
Food, hotels and transport are yours. Heavy re-amp work after band day books as extra hours or inside the mix project. Dialogue editing belongs under podcast and post-production.

FAQ
Can we track everything in one live pass?
Often yes for tight bands. Complex songs may mix live beds with overdubs. The aim is editable sound, not forcing a single flawless run.
Do you provide amps and drums?
Basic backline when available on request; most bands bring their own. Share models and wattage beforehand so we plan power and floor space.
How many songs fit in one day?
With a prepared four-piece rock set, three to five songs is realistic — depends on mistakes and extra doubles. Fewer solid tracks beat ten rough ones.
Should vocals go in the booth instead?
Live vocals in the room work; for maximum control we often track vocals later in vocals and voice. We decide after the first reference take.
What if a member cancels last minute?
Free reschedule more than 7 days out. Short notice we can switch to overdub hours when a substitute arrives later — see terms.
