Mastering & final delivery

The last listening step before release: we set loudness, spectral balance and gaps between songs so your work translates on headphones, car speakers and platforms alike.

Mastering engineer listening between two monitors in a small studio room.

Mastering at Mugwetkyro is not a “louder” button but QC on neutral monitors in a dedicated listening room in Vienna 1070. We work from stereo mixes made here or elsewhere, always with a clear brief for the destination.

You receive export-ready files and a note of target levels used. Fees include 20% VAT; legal terms live in our terms and conditions, technical background in master formats & streaming delivery.

Workflow

  1. Delivery

Stereo WAV, 24-bit, roughly 3–6 dBFS peak headroom, no limiter on the mix bus. Send track order, ISRC plans and desired gaps between album songs.

  2. Analysis

We inspect spectrum, phase, clicks and DC offset before processing. Issues are reported before mastering — sometimes a quick return to mixing saves the project.

  3. Master & proof

First version for download; test on at least two systems. 2 revision rounds for loudness, EQ tweaks and sequence are included.

  4. Export

Final masters plus optional instrumental or clean versions for sync. Files kept 24 months, then deleted.

When mastering helps

After mixing, songs often lack a shared glue: each track sounds fine alone but levels and bass weight drift side by side. Mastering evens that without remaking the mix. Typical use: singles before upload, EPs with one colour, live recordings from band recording, and music beds that must sit under speech from podcast post-production.

If the mix still has obvious problems (harsh sibilance, masked vocals, unruly subs), fix the mix first — mastering cannot reliably rescue that.

Our mastering room

Since 2019 we have run 3 rooms on Siebensterngasse; the mastering desk is acoustically separate from the tracking control room. Full-range monitors, controlled decay and regular reference material keep judgments honest.

You may attend the proof listen — U3 Neubaugasse station, Siebensterngasse exit — about three minutes on foot to Siebensterngasse 19. Bus line 13A stops at Neubaugasse / Burggasse (around five minutes on foot).. Many clients work fully remote; we deliver via secure links and reply within 2 business days on email.

Loudness and platforms

Streaming services normalize differently. We master to LUFS and true-peak targets that fit your genre — pop and hip-hop can be louder than jazz if you want that. Master formats & streaming delivery lists common export profiles.

  • Integrated LUFS and max true peak noted per project
  • No forced brickwall mastering without your OK
  • Vinyl-oriented masters with HF rolloff and bass mono prep on request

Album sequence and metadata

EP and album packages include pauses, fades and opener impact. Crossfades are possible when you ask for them; we often prefer clean edits when energy differs between songs.

You enter ISRC, UPC and credits at the distributor; we name files to your pattern (e.g. 01_Title_Master.wav). Rights notes: disclaimer.

Revisions and boundaries

2 rounds cover mastering tweaks: air, sibilance, sequence, moderate loudness changes. If the mix bus was already limited or the mix must be redone, we pause and point to mixing — that avoids paying twice.

Extra versions (radio edit, instrumental, clean lyrics) are not automatic; we quote them upfront or bill the hourly model.

Formats and fees

Default delivery: 24-bit WAV at 44.1 or 48 kHz depending on channel. 96 kHz hi-res on request. MP3 or AAC only as listening copies, not as the master.

With mix and post

Many projects stay in-house: record, mixing, mastering — one continuity of references. External mixers send mixdowns too; we ask about bus processing to avoid double compression.

Podcast music or intros from post are mastered separately when they release as standalone tracks. Spoken episodes themselves are edited in podcast post-production, not in the mastering fee.

Booking and privacy

Start via contact with track count, genre and deadline. We confirm the fixed fee in writing. Mugwetkyro GmbH processes audio only for the project; details in the privacy policy.

QC before release

Before the final export we listen on headphones and main monitors, compare against genre references and verify filenames and sample rate. That catches upload mistakes at the aggregator or when sending files to pressing.

If you target multiple media (streaming plus download shop plus vinyl), say so in the brief — we can prepare variant-specific exports without diluting the creative mastering choices.

FAQ

Do I need a different master per streaming service?

Usually no. One well-made master serves common platforms. Special cases (very loud club master vs. quiet jazz) belong in the brief.

Can I master with Mugwetkyro without mixing there?

Yes. Send the final stereo WAV. If we hear serious mix issues we say so — a small mix fix is often cheaper than mastering a crushed mix.

How long for an album master?

After delivery, plan about one to two weeks for up to twelve songs including feedback. Rush when capacity allows.

Do you supply DDP for CD pressing?

DDP creation is not in the standard track fee. We can build a DDP package for an add-on once sequence and gaps are final.
